Xiaomi Redmi 9 review – The new Redmi 9 is close Note counterpart – the Redmi Note 9 compared to any of its predecessors. The new Xiaomi Redmi 9 has a large 1080p screen with a similar MediaTek chipset, and even if the cameras see some downgrades, they cover the same focal lengths. The offering is mostly the same type of versatility.
Redmi 9 – Unboxing
All new Redmi 9 is a budget phone; however, you still get a transparent case in a retail package that fits around the Redmi 9. You also get a pre-applied or cheap screen film for a few extra scratch protection. However, it was a massive smudge magnet, and we got rid of it fast.
Xiaomi Redmi 9 Review – Handling, Build and Design
The Redmi 9 is among the affordable smartphones around, and it doesn’t look cheap at all. The new Redmi is attractive, comes with a pleasant back texture, and the large screen has thin bezels. Overall, everything appears better than what the price tag suggests.
For a Xiaomi Redmi 9 review, it is a relatively thick phone, and that is unavoidable. You get the 6.53″ display and the handy 5,020 mAh battery. At about 200g, the new Redmi 9 doesn’t feel overweight, and it was unexpected given its thickness and footprint.
Redmi 9 has a waterdrop notch for an 8MP selfie camera. The grille of the earpiece is thin and almost invisible between the frame and glass. Unfortunately, LED light is absent on the Redmi 9.
The display has protection through a flat piece of Gorilla Glass 3, and Xiaomi is also shipping the Redmi 9 with a thin screen protector. It may do for a month or two, but if you need the extra protection, then purchase a proper one.
Xiaomi Redmi 9 Review – Frame
The Redmi 9 also has no frame as its rear panel covers everything that is not screen – something we called unibody. The whole piece is sturdy and thick plastic, but the manufacturer has applied different finishes on the sides and back.
Glossy bits are absent on the Redmi 9’s back panel, and the sides contain matte finish. At the same time, the rear part has a nice fingerprint-like texture. The pattern finishes around the camera setup that reminds us of the premium Redmi K30.
For a Xiaomi Redmi 9 review, you can see the transition from blue to purple via Sunset Purple version. The gradient extends to the sides and makes up for a nice look.
Xiaomi Redmi 9 Review – Camera
The Redmi 9’s camera is protruding slightly, and you have nothing to compromise regarding the experience. Three out of the four snappers are aligned vertically within a single black glass. The 13MP primary, the 8MP ultrawide, and the 2MP depth sensor and there is the always-on (and very accurate) fingerprint reader.
The 5MP macro camera and a LED flash have their small island on the side.
To add the sides on our Xiaomi Redmi 9 review, we’ll start with the bottom. There you will see the mouthpiece, the speaker, the 3.5mm jack, and the USB-C port. Further, Redmi 9’s right side has the power and volume keys, and the left side has a triple card slot. The top side has an IR blaster and a second mic.
Handling of the Xiaomi Redmi 9 is a wonderful experience. It is among the grippy phone and fits well in hand. It feels secure, and overall we had no issues while using it. Thanks to the fingerprints, all-matte finish, and smudges rarely stick and also are hard to be seen.
